Black Hills 100, Cruisin’ the 89, June 25, 2011
Sturgis, South Dakota
Out and back 100 mile trail race, 16,231 feet of climb. Level 4 technicality. 4000+ feet above sea level. Temps climbed into the 80’s. 90+ runners started. 32 finished. 30 within in the 32 hour cut off time. 17 women started. 6 finished. 5 within the cutoff time.
Most. Difficult. Race. EVER.
This pic was taken early on the race, before mile 37.
12 minutes, 14 seconds before the 32 hour cutoff time.
I’ve never, ever, been so f*cked up during a race, ever- including the time I passed out during the Boston Marathon and then ended up in the med tent for 4 hours after the finish. That was a walk to the ice cream shop compared to this. And yes, I will someday do it again.
